Theme: Four snares of Satan to avoid when running the Christian Race

Text: Hebrews 12:1-2, (New Living Translation)

 Text: Hebrews 12: 1-2,

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress. And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish."

Introductory Remarks

In the verses of our text, Paul compares the Christian life to the running of a race. He also tells us that God himself has marked out the course which each one of us must run. We had no say in it. At the time you and I received Christ as Lord and Savior, God automatically entered us in the race and chose the course we are to run. He did this because everyone that comes into the Kingdom of God is required to run the race. There are no excuses accepted and no exceptions to the rule. Everyone is entered and everyone runs.

Now there is someone hanging around who use to be a part of our old life before we received Jesus as Lord of our life, that does not want us to finish this race and win the prize. Satan is his name and setting snares to trip us up is his game. He purposes to do to us in our spiritual journey what he did to Israel in their wilderness journey. As one reads their story in the Book of Exodus and of Numbers, one will see that he was constantly setting snares to hinder the progress of the Israelites in their journey to Canaan. Was he successful with those snares? Well, let me answer that question by reminding you that with the exception of Joshua and Caleb, that generation that came out of Egypt never entered into Canaan. Their children did, but they didn't.
